Converting between your balances
What Convert is, where to find it, how the held price and the fee work, the difference between Spot and Ecosystem balances, the limits, and where your converts are listed afterwards.
Convert swaps one of your balances for another in one step, at a price that is fixed for a few seconds while you decide. There is no order book to read and no order to wait on: you see exactly what you will pay and receive, and you confirm.
Where is it?
Trading → Convert (/convert). You need to be logged in, because converting
uses your wallet balances.
How do I convert?
- Choose Spot or Ecosystem at the top, if both are offered (when only one is, there is nothing to choose). A convert always stays within one kind of balance: Spot to Spot, or Ecosystem to Ecosystem.
- Choose what you give and what you receive. Only currencies you can convert right now are listed. The arrow button between them swaps the pair.
- Enter an amount, on either side: what you want to give, or what you want to receive. Max uses your whole available balance.
- Press Preview conversion. You get a price, held for a few seconds, with a countdown.
- Press Convert before the countdown ends. Your balances update at once.
What does the preview show?
- You pay: everything that leaves your balance, the fee included.
- You receive: what arrives in your balance.
- Rate: how much you get for one unit of what you give. The small button next to it shows the rate the other way round.
- Fee: the convert fee, shown on its own line with its rate, so you can see it apart from the price.
- Price held for … seconds: how long this price is guaranteed.
The price you confirm is the price you get. If you change the amount or the pair, the preview disappears, because it was a price for that exact convert.
Why did my price expire, or change at the last moment?
A held price lasts a few seconds. When it runs out, the page fetches a new one for you up to three times while you are looking at it, and then shows a Refresh quote button.
Very rarely, when you press Convert, you see The price moved. Get a new quote. That means the market moved sharply in the seconds before you confirmed. Nothing was converted and nothing left your balance. Ask for a new quote.
Spot or Ecosystem: which should I use?
Use the kind of balance you hold. Your Spot and Ecosystem balances are separate, and a convert does not move money between them. If a currency shows on one and not the other, it can only be converted on that one here.
On Ecosystem balances some coins can only be received at an address, not into your balance. The page says so: Convert to ETH is only available as Send. See Converting and sending to an address.
Are there limits?
Yes. Each convert has a smallest and largest size, and there is a total you can convert per day, which resets at 00:00 UTC. The Limits & fees panel beside the form (below it on smaller screens) shows both, with how much of today's total you have used and the fee you pay.
Can I undo a convert?
No. A completed convert is final. You can convert back, at the price at that moment, which will usually differ from the one you converted at.
Where can I see my converts?
On the History tab of the Convert page, newest first, with each one's status. Your last five are also in Recent converts beside the form (below it on smaller screens), where View all opens History. They also appear in your wallet's transaction history as Convert.
